This painting is my homage to the Pacific Northwest with its pristine forests and the breathtaking Cascade Mountains in the background. There's nothing quite like it in the world. Calaca and his friends are making their way home back home when they meet up with Xoloitzcuintli, the Mexican hairless dog, Mexico's national canine. The word Xoloitzcuintli combines “Xolotl,” who is the Aztec god of the underworld, with “itzcuintli,” the Aztec word for dog.

Legend has it that the god of death, Xolotl, created this dog from the Bone of Life. He gave the dog to humans and told them to guard these precious pups with their lives, and in exchange, man's best friend would guide their human companions through the underworld to heaven.

Although my dog is not a Xolo, he definitely got me through times that certainly felt like the underworld. So, this painting is also dedicated to him.

You can also ask for any size print, which can also be put onto canvas. Basically, if you ask, I'll try to accommodate. Please message me to discuss prices. Smaller prints are less expensive.
